1965 Ford Mustang
Introduced on April 17, 1964, the Ford Mustang quickly became an American icon, symbolizing freedom and performance.
The 1965 Mustang Convertible, in particular, captured the hearts of many with its sporty design and open-top driving experience.
This model featured a long hood and short rear deck, proportions that gave it a dynamic stance. Inside, the Mustang combined comfort with a sporty flair, offering front bucket seats, a floor-mounted shifter, and an optional Rally-Pac, which provided a tachometer and clock.
Under the hood, the 1965 Mustang offered various engine options, including the robust 289 cubic inch V8, known for its reliability and performance potential. This engine produced 271 horsepower in its high-performance version, delivering exhilarating acceleration and driving dynamics.
The Mustang’s impact extended beyond its performance and design; it became a cultural phenomenon, symbolizing the youthful spirit of the 1960s. Its appearances in films and association with freedom and adventure have cemented its status as a timeless classic.
Notes from The Owner
Mustang enthusiasts, take a close look at this beautifully restored 1965 Mustang Convertible. The full restoration was completed between 2001 and 2003 by a professional restoration shop, and the results have held up exceptionally well over the years. The light yellow paint still shines with depth and clarity, and the body is absolutely solid—no rust, bubbles, or rot anywhere to be found.
This vehicle runs and drives beautifully with no leaks, drips, ticks, knocks, or rattles. The engine is strong and smooth, and I’ll be fully detailing under the hood prior to sale to ensure it’s as clean as the rest of the car.
The car was originally built in Dearborn and delivered new to southern Indiana, where it remained with minimal use. It was later brought into a restoration shop at just 62,344 miles. According to the service records, there was very little rust repair needed during restoration—this car has always been solid.
Included in the extensive list of updates and replacements are:
Mechanical & Drivetrain: Engine timing chain and gear, transmission tune, water pump, power steering pump and slave cylinder, belts and hoses, carburetor rebuild, radiator, and manifold gaskets.
Brakes & Suspension: Power brake unit, new brake lines, turned drums, shocks, control arms, and ball joints.
Interior & Trim: Reupholstered front and rear seats, carpet and sill plates, trunk mat, spare tire hold-down and cover, dimmer switch, gauge cluster, and wood sport steering wheel.
Exterior & Electrical: New convertible top with pump and cylinders, wiring harness, bezels, switches, tail lights, gas cap, tires with wire wheel covers, and an AM/FM radio with upgraded speakers.
One thoughtful upgrade from the previous owner is the addition of a polished aluminum radiator overflow tank, mounted neatly beside the radiator.
This ’65 Mustang is a fantastic cruiser—starts, runs, drives, stops, and restarts exactly as it should. It’s been very well cared for, and it shows in every detail.
