1963 Ford thunderbird - Braatens Auto Sales

The 1963 Ford Thunderbird, often referred to as the “Bullet Bird” due to its sleek, aerodynamic design, represents a pinnacle of early 1960s automotive luxury and innovation. This model’s styling cues were influenced by the jet age, evident in its bullet-like front appearance and jet engine-inspired taillights, capturing the spirit of a rapidly advancing technological era.

One of the most remarkable features of this Thunderbird is its “Swing-Away” steering wheel, which moves to the side when the transmission is in park, allowing for easier driver entry and exit—a testament to Ford’s commitment to driver convenience and futuristic design.

Under the hood, the Thunderbird was powered by a robust 390 cubic inch V8 engine, delivering 300 horsepower, ensuring that its performance matched its striking appearance. The convertible variant offered an open-air driving experience, further enhancing its allure.

The 1963 model year marked the final iteration of the third-generation Thunderbird, making it a sought-after classic for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Its blend of innovative features, powerful performance, and iconic design ensures its place in automotive history.
